World War I

The League of Nations was a forerunner to the United Nations (UN). It was designed as a place where countries could settle difference without warfare. Unfortunately, the League of Nations had no power to enforce its decision, and no way to get troops or funding. It was doomed when the United States refused to join.  Treaty of Versailles, 14 Points
