World War I

Germany declared a blockade of Europe. This meant they would stop and sink any ship carrying war material to Europe. To do this, they used submarines. The use of submarines to sink merchant ships was one of the reasons America entered the war on the side of the Allies, joining France, Britain, and Russia.
