Ask Mr. Donn
Besides being a peninsula, Italy has very tall mountains on its northern borders and a mountain range running down its center. How did this affect the growth of Rome?
Protected in the North by the Alps, the East by the Apennines Mountains and the south and west by the Mediterranean Sea, Rome was able to grow and conquer the surrounding area slowly until it grew strong enough to spread past the mountains and seas.
