Cicero was a famous Roman writer and orator. He was also a Senator. He spoke not only in the Senate but also in the forum. The forum was an important part of any ancient Roman town. It was the marketplace and was surrounded by businesses and temples. Anyone could speak in the forum during the Republic. Romans always collected to hear the great orators, and even some that were not so great. But Cicero was special. He was a fabulous orator. He lived during the same time as Julius Caesar. These two famous men knew each other, but they were not friends. Cicero did not trust Julius Caesar, and Caesar did not like the fact that the people listened when Cicero spoke.
