Ask Mr. Donn
What was the purpose of the Sumerian Assembly?
The king in each city-state was in charge of the government of that city-state. He had help. He had nobles as advisors. But in ancient Sumer, there was also an assembly of the people. The assembly could overrule the king and say no, this is a bad law. The king would then have to rethink his decision. Wise kings listened to the people. Sumerian Government
