What did people in the Gupta Empire eat?

In the earlier part of the Gupta Empire, meals were both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Those along waterways enjoyed water fowl and eggs. With the rise of Buddhism, vegetarian meals became the norm for about one half of the people.
