What was a shantytown?
Answer:
As people lost their homes because they couldn't pay rent or the mortgage they went to open land (parks vacant lots) and built shelter out of whatever they could find, using old wood or scrap metal and even cardboard. These communities grew in size and in number as more and more people built their own shanty towns across the country. The Great Depression
