Show Answer

Things changed during the Han Dynasty. An exam was given to find the best and most qualified people to work in government. The exam was open to any Chinese male (no women, just men) whether they were peasants or nobles. If you passed the exam, you got a job in government, either replacing someone who retired or died, or in a new or expanded department or division. Working for the government in ancient China was a very important job. It brought great honor to your family. Each year, people worked very hard to get ready for the government exam.  Han Dynasty
