Ancient Rome

The legend of Romulus and Remus was important to Romans for several reasons. First, it provided a reason for Rome to have a king, as the brothers were of royal blood. Second, Romulus was descended from the last Prince of Troy giving Romans a link to a very important historical city and proving that Romulus had the right to rule. Third, the founder of Rome, being partly divine (descended from gods), gave Rome a direct link to and protection from the gods. The Legend of Romulus and Remus
