During the 1920s, American art diverged from and became very different than art in the rest of the world. While European art went through an expressionist period, American art stressed realism and American photography stressed the "Common man". Writing was much more bitter in contrast and some of the more famous writers like Faulkner, Hemmingway, and Fitzgerald railed against American politics and way of life.  The Roaring 20s
