The Townshend Acts were a series of laws suggested by Charles Townshend the English Financial minister and passed by English Parliament.  They included a quartering law whereby the colonists had to provide food housing to English troops, new taxes on imported goods, and writs that allowed English troops to search colonial homes and businesses for smuggled goods.  The Townshend Acts for Kids
