The Maya Empire

Mesoamerica is the name given to a region and a cultural area in the Americas, situated mostly in Central America, plus a piece of Mexico. It's the area in which a number of pre-Columbian tribes flourished prior to the Spanish invasion of the Americas in the 15th and 16th centuries. One of those tribes was the Maya civilization.
